Chicken Tracks

Do you ever wonder what your chickens do all day while you are at work?   After our recent snow fall, I was able to get a pretty good idea of what Helen and Mrs. Hall were up to by looking at their tracks in the snow.  Just two chickens made it look like there were dozens of birds, and they made snow track highways!

In the picture above you can see that they visited the compost pile repeatedly.

They keep the compost turned nicely as they dig in it searching for tasty bits.  It looks like they go from the compost along the fence...

around the back side of the garden...

then to the water bucket.  They must have been really thirsty - so many tracks!

Then they go to where I throw their breakfast and scratch in the dirt.  And then head back to the compost for another loop.  I couldn't tell how many circuits they made, but it was a fairly redundant pattern.  Compost, garden, water, breakfast spot.  Repeat.

There were no chicken tracks at all in the front yard or the side yard.  Now I know.
