Based on a late night, two minute internet search, I have identified this as some sort of dung beetle. We catch these beetles in our bat nets frequently, and I usually refer to them as molasses beetles because of their weird sweet smell. Considering dung beetles grow up in a ball of mammal dropping, they really don't smell bad at all! We always notice how strong these beetles are, like the super man of the bug world, which makes sense when you consider that they have to roll a giant ball off poo around until they attract a mate, then bury it with a baby beetle inside. Not a job for a wimpy bug. This is what being far from home and spending so much time out in the woods at night has reduced me to - playing with bugs! Enjoy the video.
