Oh, Gee. There's a Bird on Me.

When I saw this guinea on top of Brandon's art crate, I couldn't help it, and started singing that Sesame Street song that goes, "Can't you see, there's a bird on me.  I can't tell if there's one, or ten, or three.  I don't want to complain or fuss, but those birds up there think I'm a motor bus! Oh, gee. There's a bird on me."  We can listen to that song whenever we want, thanks to YouTube.  What a magical thing!

Brandon built this giant crate so he could transport a six foot by six foot painting to a gallery in Columbus, Ohio last weekend.  The crate is fastened to the bed of his truck, and protected from the weather by a tarp.  He can still put smaller paintings in the bed of the truck too, but the crate will hold several large canvases.

The back wall of the crate is hinged, so when he removes the ratchet straps and tarp, the short wall folds down, allowing paintings to slide into the crate.  A friend of his helped him wrestle the crate into position, so I'm not sure how we will ever get it off the truck!

Yesterday evening Brandon and I climbed into the top of Joe's hay barn, and pitched down enough loose hay to fill our trailer wagon.  Joe said we could have all the loose hay and bales with broken strings if we would clean it out of his barn and make room for this year's hay harvest.  We were so low on hay that I doled out the last bale in tiny bits, and gave the poor donkeys the dregs off the barn floor.  The animals were not happy to be on reduced rations for even a day.  What must it be like to look out on a world covered in green food, but be prevented from access to it because of a fence?  Yesterday morning the donkeys brayed the moment Brandon stepped out of bed.  We laughed to know that they spy on us through the windows, or maybe hear the creaking of the floorboards in our old house.

By the time we made it home from work, scarfed some leftovers for dinner, made a trip to Joe's barn for hay, and made it back home to feed, the goats were crying for their dinner and the donkeys pranced and whined when they saw me coming with a forkful.  Peaches was so excited for the hay she buried her face in it!

The chickens weren't even excited enough about the hay to get back out of bed!
